Counselling is a relationship, whereby, you should feel safe enough to explore your issues in a non judgemental way. The counsellor should be genuine in their responses to you, empathic and understanding and not judge you.
When a person experiences this, it helps them to open up to their true experience, thoughts and feelings which in turn helps them understand their situation or self better. This brings more acceptance of themself or helps them to make any change they want. Sometimes a person is not sure whether they need therapy but as an experienced Counsellor, I am able to evaluate whether this is for you or a different kind of help may be of value.
Some people require brief therapy, some require long term therapy but I will not ask you to commit to a certain amount.. I believe that you will know when it is no longer needed and we will review it on a regular basis.
As an integrative counsellor, I sometimes offer the use of techniques such as cognitive behavioural skills. This way of working explores a persons thoughts and beliefs and together we will see if they are rational or irrational. You decide whether they are serving you or you are ready to change.
I am also a believer in the subconscious and believe that our dreams can help us to explore our inner being at a deeper level.
